Climate Finance Training, Pakistan

I led the Climate Finance portion of a capacity building project (2025) by the University of Kassel and PIK – Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, in collaboration with GIZ Pakistan and the Global Change Impact Studies Centre (GCISC). The course brought together 120 university teachers from 20+ universities across Islamabad, KP, and Punjab, who are now incorporating the course materials into their research and teaching curricula.

Our course, Fundamentals of Climate Finance in Low- and Middle-Income Countries, introduced:

  • The basics of climate finance and its global architecture

  • Instruments of climate finance (grants, loans, bonds, sukuk, guarantees, insurance, carbon credits, etc.)

  • Climate project finance, including project cycles and concept note preparation

  • Opportunities for academics to engage in teaching, research, and evidence generation
